Plenty of Live, Native Christmas Trees Still Available!
According to the Maui News (cover story, Dec 17, 2009), Maui has zero mainland Christmas trees available. The demand for holiday trees continues, and residents are forced to consider other options. The decisions you makeĀ can reduce the detrimental effects of of shipping goods to the islands, including dangeroud carbon emissions and invasive species introduction.
There are plenty of live, native Christmas trees available, though, which have many benefits not found in imported or even locally grown pine trees:
- Native trees are generally better for the environment (click here to see a video explaining why, and featuring plenty of gorgeous native trees!)
- Purchasing a locally-grown tree keeps your dollars circulating locally – which stimulates the local economy.
- Living trees end up planted in the ground, providing you with a lifetime of beauty and shade.
- Planting a native tree helps to restore the local ecosystem, which is very important for our island’s survival.
Sometimes traditions must change to fit with the times – and considering the boost that our local economy and environment needs, we think it’s a no-brainer! Make your Christmas tree a living, locally grown, native one…and plant your holiday tree for a change!
