About Us

The Permaculture Group is committed to sealing the bonds and fostering the relationships that make communities work in sustainable ways. We believe that no culture can survive without a sustainable source of food and a land use ethic. Our motto is "Thinking ahead...from the ground up", and we mean it.

We happily get our hands dirty by partnering with family farms and "adopting" them into short-term consulting partnerships, working to find a perfect fit for their sustainable future. Whether it's setting up the framework for Community Supported Acriculture, Co-operative Farmers Markets, or Farm-to-Table programs (at schools, hospitals, restaurants and private homes), we are delighted to play a part in empowering the food producers we feel are vital to the survival of local economies and communities. Complimenting this idea, our Environmental Stewards program adopts indigenous methods (let's not forget who the true experts are!) and allows students of all ages to get their hands dirty too!

We get our hands dirty, but we clean up real nicely too! The Permaculture Group focuses heavily on policy issues and business practices at the local, state, and national levels when it comes to land use, economic sustainability and "greening" businesses and communities. We partner with everyone from kindergarten classroom teachers to national Agriculture experts, all with the same goal: living consciously, with future generations in mind. We'll find the resources your organization needs to live according to a tailor-made green philosophy. And we'll help save you money in the process!

While a community may find a place to buy local food, and recycle and compost their waste, no community can sustain itself without healthy interactivity at safe gathering places. This is where The Permaculture Group got it's start: on a private flower farm on the slopes of the Haleakala Volcano, on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Founder Joseph Imhoff had the foresight and vision to transform an overgrown private property on a farm into a place for concerts, art festivals, and spiritual gatherings - he even held his wedding there! Now the community's demand for this location is strong - and the family farm owner has him to thank for the additional income.

The Permaculture Group offers further services that are Education-oriented. Over the years, the founders have met and befriended some of the foremost experts in the fields of Cultural Anthropology, the Sciences, Permaculture, Environmental Justice, Peace and Conflict Resolution, and Community Health. And we feel that there is no one better to learn from than an expert! We are building an educational program that can be tailor-made to fit regional needs, one that will engage the community and have lasting benefits.

While we're still growing into our new company, we come to you with a passion for life and a great respect for nature and the environment. We hope to meet you along the way. Aloha.
